4. Fungous infections.

4.1 Fungous spots and stripes.

Not acceptable

Not acceptable

Acceptable on the edges, but not on the butt-end (up to 1/5 of width and length of lumber).

Acceptable on the edges up to 1/2 of width and length of lumber. On the butt-end - no more than 10% of butt-end surface.

Acceptable

4.2* Light sap-wood and mold.

4.2.1 Surface

Not acceptable

Not acceptable

Acceptable on the layers and edges (no deeper than 2 mm) in the form of spots and stripes. The total surface of defects should be no more than 5% of the surface of one layer on all surfaces of a piece of lumber.

Acceptable on layers and edges in the form of spots and stripes.

Acceptable

4.2.2 Deep

Not acceptable

Not acceptable.

Acceptable on layers and edges in the form of spots and stripes. The total surface of defects should be no more than 5% of the total surface of one layer.

Acceptable on layers and edges in the form of spots and stripes. The total surface of defects should be no more than 50% of surface of one layer and edge.

Acceptable

5. Defects by insects.

5.1 Worm-hole

Not acceptable.

Acceptable on the surface if infected by bark beetle.

NOTE. The quantity of the 4th grade material affected by deep sap-wood should not be higher than 25% in one shipment.

* Limits on light sap-wood and mold described in 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 shall be in power till January 1, 1986.

1. Defects of mechanical processing.

1.1 Obzol

1.1.1 Obtuse (more than 90 degrees).

Acceptable:

- on one edge, the length should not be more than 1/5, 1/4 or 1/3 of the length of lumber material.

- on two edges, the length should not be more than 1/10, 1/5 or 1/4 of the length of lumber material.

Acceptable on both edges if the length of obzol is no more than 2/3 of the length of lumber.

Acceptable on both edges along all the length of the lumber material, if the saw-kerf is no less than 1/3 of thickness and width of the lumber material.

The width of obzol, that is taken into account by the maximum size of a non-saw kerf part of lumber in millimeters, is acceptable if obzol is no more than:

- If the thickness of lumber material is less or equal 25 mm: 1/4, 1/3 or 1/2 of the thickness of lumber material.

- If the thickness of lumber material is more than 25 mm: 1/5, 1/4 or 1/3 of the thickness of lumber material.

2/3

2/3

Obzol is acceptable if saw-kerf part of the edge constitutes no less than 1/2 of the thickness of lumber material.

1.1.2 Acute (less than 90 degrees).

Acceptable on one edge if it does not exceed 1/10 of the length of the lumber material and if the nominal width of the internal layer is preserved.

Obzol should be cleaned from bark and bast. In lumber of the 5th grade leftover bast is acceptable.

1.2 Riski

The depth of riski should not be more than 75 mm.

1.3 Bahroma

Not acceptable

1.4 Saw-kerf slant

Deviation from the perpendicularity of the ends towards the edges is allowed to a maximum of 3% of width and thickness of lumber material correspondently.
